A collaborative approach to architecture in Aotearoa.
SRA Architects was founded in Aotearoa New Zealand in 2016; the culmination of a close working relationship between Sheppard & Rout Architects and Arthouse Architects. In its nearly 10 years the practice has carried out a number of education, healthcare, multi-unit residential, planning and commercial projects. The practice is led by Jasper van der Lingen, Rachel Dodd, Jorgan Anderson, Tim Dagg, Matt Gutsell, Steven Orr and Joff Kennedy operating out of four studios in New Zealand: Nelson, Blenheim and two in Christchurch.
our experience
SRA Architects are leaders in the utilisation of mass timber in projects where appropriate. Timber, we feel, is a material with huge benefits in today’s world.
Carbon Capture: Timber sequesters carbon and is therefore a carbon positive material.
New Zealand Product: We grow and manufacture timber for buildings here in New Zealand, so its use supports and benefits the local economy.
Biophilia: Timber is a natural product. It has been demonstrated that exposure to nature and natural products in our built environment greatly benefits our wellbeing.
Our Values
Kotahitanga
A unity and togetherness, working together towards a common goal. This infuses all we do from the joining of our two practices through to how we collaborate with our clients, stakeholders, fellow consultants, and contractors.
Kaitiakitanga
To nurture and protect the environment and its people. This is a fundamental value of SRA Architects. We strive to ensure our projects minimise any adverse effects on the environment and to enhance it within the constraints of a project.
Kairangi
Pursuit of Excellence. SRA Architects are about treating every project, big or small, as significant, and special. All projects are important in their own way and deserve the best and our full attention.
