Since graduating from the University of Auckland School of Architecture and Planning in 1999, Matt has gained a broad experience in architecture, working in practices in his native Hawkes Bay and London. He returned to New Zealand in 2004 to join Sheppard & Rout.

Matt has worked on a varied range of projects since joining Sheppard & Rout, including lead design, documentation, and management of residential, commercial, healthcare, public and education projects. Having worked on large education projects in London, Matt has developed this experience through key roles in the Landscape Architecture building at Lincoln University, and Te Kete Ita new commercial kitchen and dining hall.

Significant projects include the Burwood Hospital Redevelopment main entry building and several commercial, retail and hospitality buildings in central Christchurch, including the replacement Stranges/Glendenning building at the corner of High and Lichfield Streets and the Spark Offices on Cathedral Square.

Recent projects include the ANZCO & FMG commercial offices & master planning development at Christchurch Airport, Majestic Church development in Durham St, Ōpuke Thermal Pools & Spa development in Methven, the South Brighton Surf Club rebuild and the AFFCO Head Office near Hamilton. Matt has a strong interest in the use of natural materials and the tectonics of detailing modern buildings while incorporating passive environmental design.
